INECE Workshop Promotes Cooperation Between Researchers and Academics, Establishes Research Agenda
On 21-22 October, INECE and the Program on Governance and Sustainable Development at the Donald Bren School of Environmental Science & Management at the University of California, Santa Barbara, gathered a select international group of environmental compliance and enforcement practitioners and academics for a workshop to establish a research agenda for the academic community that will further the efforts of practitioners.
Bridging the interests of these two communities, workshop participants identified several important topics for further research including: why compliance occurs, how to measure the deterrent effect of enforcement, and what makes networks effective.
Workshop participants recommended next steps for narrowing the list of topics, distributing them to the research community, and getting results from the research.
The agenda, background papers, and a list of participants at the workshop are available through the INECE Web site.
