Water Quality Standards, Measurement, and Data
US EPA Water Science Program - provides analytical methods, water quality standards, models and assessments.
American Institute of Hydrology - establishes standards and procedures to certify individuals qualified in surface-water, groundwater, and water-quality hydrology.
Hydrology Forum - mailing list that aims to provide a forum for discussion of scientific research in all aspects of Hydrology. Exchange of ideas and experiences regarding use and application of hydrological softwares are also welcome.
UNEP Global Environment Monitoring System - Water - provides authoritative, scientifically-sound information on the state and trends of global inland water quality required as a basis for the sustainable management of the world's freshwater to support global environmental assessments and decision- making processes.
UNESCO's International Hydrological Programme (IHP) - intergovernmental scientific cooperative programme in water resources, is a vehicle through which Member States can upgrade their knowledge of the water cycle and thereby increase their capacity to better manage and develop their water resources.
World Health Organization - Water, Sanitation and Health - provides guidelines and training on water quality standards and assessment.
World Meteorological Organization - Hydrology and Water Resources Programme (HWRP) - concentrates on the measurement of basic hydrological elements from networks of hydrological and meteorological stations; the collection, processing, storage, retrieval and publication of hydrological data, including data on the quantity and quality of both surface water and groundwater; the provision of such data and related information for use in planning and operating water resources projects; and the installation and operation of hydrological forecasting systems.
Point Source Water Pollution
USEPA - Waste Water Effluent Guidelines - national standards for wastewater discharges to surface waters and publicly owned treatment works (municipal sewage treatment plants). The standards are technology-based (i.e. they are based on the performance of treatment and control technologies); they are not based on risk or impacts upon receiving waters. See also EPA's Effluent Trading program.
Australian Waters and Rivers Commission - Water Protection Guidelines -
UN FAO - Wastewater Use and Treatment in Agriculture - a guide to the use of treated effluent for irrigation and aquaculture.
World Bank - Pollution Management - information on pollution prevention and abatement publications and bank projects.
Non-Point Source Water Pollution
USEPA - Non-point Source Program
UN FAO - Management of Agricultural Drainage Water Quality - guide to mitigating the damage caused by disposal of low quality drainage effluent to water bodies.
UN FAO - Control of Water Pollution from Agriculture - delineates the nature and consequences of agricultural impacts on water quality, and to provide a framework for practical measures to be undertaken by relevant professionals and decision-makers to control water pollution.
Groundwater
US EPA Groundwater & Drinking Water Program - regulates drinking water standards, public drinking water systems, drinking water data & databases, source water protection and underground injection.
Transboundary Water Pollution
Convention of the Protection and Use of Transboundary Watercourses and International Lakes - UNECE convention with protocols on water & health and civil liability & compensation for damages. Also overseas the International Water Assessment Center (IWAC).

Enforcement Programs
United States: National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES)
