The Convention was adopted on 22 March 1989 by the Conference of Plenipotentiaries which was convened at Basel from 20 to 22 March 1989. Basel Convention Regional Center (for English-speaking African Countries)
The Basel Convention Regional Centre (BCRC) based in Pretoria has been in operation from July 2000. The main objective for its establishment, which is in line with all such Regional Centres in the world, is to assist in building the legal, institutional and technological capacity in the 21 English speaking African countries to be able to manage Hazardous waste in an environmentally sound manner in line with the Basel Convention provisions.

Cleaner Production (Pollution Prevention) in China
Cleaner Production has been adopted by the Government of the People's Republic of China as one of the prime tools in its fight against industrial pollution. This web site has been developed by the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) which is the Commission responsible for the implementation of Cleaner Production. Prior to March 2003 this was the responsibility of the former State Economic and Trade Commission (SETC). Every effort has been made to make the information accurate but all information on the site or linked to by the site must be viewed in the context of the disclaimer.
