The Asia Forest Partnership (AFP) is collaborative initiative of inter-governmental organizations, civil society and government. Among the objectives of the initiative is the formation of a labeling and tracking system to verify the legal origin of forest products.

This action plan for cooperation in combating illegal logging and illegally logged timber and wood products, signed by the governments of Japan and Indonesia, sets, among other things, the long term goal of establishing a legal verification system.

The Kimberley Process
The Kimberley Process is a joint government, international diamond industry and civil society initiative to stem the flow of conflict diamonds (those diamonds mined in countries enduring civil strife) and employs an extensive labeling and verification scheme which may be a useful model to use to track forest products.
