To obtain an Authorized Visa you will be required to stay in Costa Rica for a restricted period of time. To obtain your tourist visa, you must undertake the following procedures at your nearest Consulate of Costa Rica (please see attached list):
Requirements to
obtain an authorized visa :
1. A passport valid for at least 6 months (and photocopy of the page with your information).
2. An application form. This is an official document, therefore only application forms issued at Consulates or from an official website are accepted at the Consulates.
3. A request letter addressed to Dirección General de Migración y Extranjería (Attached). This letter will only be valid if faxed by the Consulate that will issue your visa. The immigration office does not process documents that are not presented by the Consulate of your jurisdiction.
4. 1 color photograph (2 x 2 inches).
5. Your itinerary. It is recommended NOT to buy your airline ticket until your visa has been approved.

A personal or company letter stating the purpose of your trip. Attached

7. Proof of legal permanent residency.
8. Proof of solid economic status (bank account statements, salary statements, etc.).
US$ 20,00 payable in cash, money order, cashiers check or company check. Please issue the check to Consulate of Costa Rica.
A refundable deposit wired to the bank account of the Dirección General de Migración y Extranjería in Costa Rica. The amount will be determined by the Dirección General de Migración y Extranjería and refunded to you after you return to your country of residency. You must present a copy of the deposit slip to the Consulate.
Generally the process takes 4 weeks. The authorized visa is issued by the Dirección General de Migración y Extranjería, therefore the processing time may vary. Once it is approved, the Consulate processes it in 1 week.
· Documents required for the above processes may be submitted all at once in order to expedite your tourist visa issuance. Your tourist visa will not be issued until your VIA is approved.
· You will be required to stay in Costa Rica for a restricted period of time.

1. Authenticate your Visa Application Form
Your Visa Application Form must be authenticated by a notary public. The notary public must sign, stamp, and write on the back of the visa application form the following statement:

2. Enclose a self addressed stamped mail envelop with the postage that is required.
If you use a private courier (DHL, FEDEX, U.P.S., etc.) please include a note with your courier information, and a courier self addressed envelop with your account number. The Consulate of Costa Rica will call your courier when your visa has been issued.
